This year marks 10 years of Niya K, and what a wonderful journey it’s been.
Ten years of creativity, growth, and designing beautiful pieces for each one of you!
As we celebrate this milestone, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where it all began, how far we’ve come, and to share the beginnings of our story with all of you.
Twenty years ago, I moved from Mumbai to Hong Kong after marrying Jimit. I came with a background in fashion design, a passion for creativity, and a lot of curiosity about what this new city would bring. I had spent several years working in the fashion industry and loved the process of turning inspiration into something tangible. But when I became a mother, everything shifted. I took a step back from the fast-paced design world to raise our children.
Still, the need to create never left.
When Ishaan was around six months old, I felt ready to re-engage with work in some way. I wasn’t looking for a full-time job, but I needed something that would bring me back to myself. I started freelancing in fashion again, and almost unintentionally, I began exploring jewellery design as well. At first, it was just for friends and family. I would create pieces here and there, nothing formal, just a creative outlet that felt light and joyful.
Slowly, that light began to grow. What started as a few custom orders became more consistent, and I began to see that jewellery could become something more than a side project. Once both kids were in full-time school, I had the space to think about building something larger. That’s when I decided to officially register Niya K in June 2015.
The beauty of this business is that it offered me creative freedom with the flexibility to grow it on my own terms. I could still be present for my children while building a brand that was personal and deeply meaningful. It gave me the best of both worlds.
Even after registering the business, fashion still had a hold on me. I remember clearly in 2018, Jimit looked at one of my fashion mood boards and said, “You put so much heart into this. But look at how your jewellery is growing. Imagine what would happen if you focused all your energy here.” At that point, our client base had already doubled. He was right, it was time to commit.
From that moment on, I poured myself into Niya K and along with Jimit’s help from 2019 we started in our own space in TST. We built out our collections, structured the brand more intentionally, and launched our first proper website. That space helped us grow in so many ways, we worked hard, refined our customer experience, and expanded our ready to wear collection, whilst still focusing on our bespoke diamond jewellery.
Now, in 2025, as we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, we have just moved into our brand-new Central location. It feels incredibly fitting. This space is not just a studio, it’s a milestone. Central brings us closer to our clients and places us in the heart of Hong Kong’s business district.
