When buying diamond engagement rings, ensuring the perfect fit is essential to making it truly special.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to measuring your (her) ring size accurately at home.
This process is simple, yet crucial, to avoid any hiccups during your proposal or when presenting a bespoke engagement ring.
- Start with seeing if she wears existing rings, and pay attention to which finger she wears them on
- Tip: The fingers of the dominant hand are usually ½ a half size larger than the one on the non dominant ring
- If she does then best to take those with you to the jeweller or any jewellery store to get it measured. The fingers all have different sizes and an expert can usually estimate the size difference between the fingers.
- If she never wears a ring, then the best thing to do is have a friend/sister/mother take her shopping, it doesn't need to be at a fine jewellery store, it can be any jewellery shop so that she doesn’t get a whiff of what is happening.
- We do love seeing couples designing the ring together, so if you like please bring her in to see us and then we get the most accurate size of all! We also work with couples who come in for the first consultation together, after we know what she is after, then we leave her out of the conversation until the ring gets on her finger
Additional Tips for Accuracy:
- Measure your finger at different times of the day. Fingers can swell or shrink depending on the temperature and time of day. To ensure accuracy, take measurements at multiple times to find a consistent size.
- Consider the ring’s width. Wider rings will fit more snugly than thinner ones, so you might need to adjust your size accordingly.
- Buy a ring sizer from Amazon or Taobao and just have it, it’s useless for the future as well!
- use an online ring size chart - app called RingSizer works well - if you have existing rings
Ensuring a perfect fit for your engagement ring is not only about beauty but also comfort. By following these simple steps, you can measure your ring size accurately at home.
